At this moment, Astaco Technologies is focused on the development of a pilot plant able to produce Haematococcus pluvialis in a massive way. Astaco Technologies was granted a 1,2 million euro European subsidy together with our project partners Wageningen University & Research and APT. In this project the technology is developed for a fully automated ‘first-of-a-kind’ large-scale algae production system. These systems can also be used for other algae species.
The technological innovation in algae production systems is developing fast all over the world. However, the technical upscaling of the innovative components to larger production systems for Haematococcus pluvialis is complex and technically challenging. In addition, the special hygienic conditions in the production system require a new reactor design, innovative process control technology and an innovative use of LED assimilation lamps.
